Introducing: The Wrap
Fabric have recently designed a substantial modernisation of a traditional 1970’s detached dwelling in Dorridge, Solihull. The Wrap, named after the wrap-around windows and cladding treatment, is currently under construction and due to be completed June 2021.
The designs provide vast improvements to the external appearance of the house, whilst also significantly improving the internal spatial configuration to suit the needs for a young family. The design responds to the existing materiality and scale of the local context, providing a modern interpretation to existing forms and features. The dwelling sits back from any consistent and established building line, allowing a freedom in style due to its relative isolation. Careful consideration has been given to the existing neighbours with deflected windows providing vistas onto the arrival and to the public highway.
Fabric have been appointed by the client to provide a ‘full turn-key solution’ from conception to completion, where we were able to combine design and construction functions as one team. This has allowed us to ensure the delivery of meticulous detail and uniquely designed elements, including Flemish bond brickwork with projecting headers, allowing us to create an evolution of textures throughout the proposal.
